Singapore’s Novotel Clarke Quay Issues Environmental Policy Statement

With the world focusing on global warming, Novotel’s Clarke Quay in Singapore recently announced a green initiative of its own and plans to do its part to fight climate change.

Jan 19, 2009 – Companies around the world are focusing attention on the scourge of climate change and Novotel’s Clarke Quay in Singapore announced recently it too will do its part to halt global warming.

Novotel Clarke Quay has made a commitment to sustainable development and announced in November 2008 a plan to tackle climate change by implementing a raft of measures at its four-star hotel.

“Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay is committed to continually improve the environment and social sustainability performance,” a statement signed by Regional General Manager Heinz Javier Colby says.

The hotel has set out to protect the environment by reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, lowering its consumption of natural resources, preserving biodiversity, and recycling waste produced.

Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay is the first hotel in Singapore certified as a Green Globe Hotel by EC3 Global, an internationally recognized advisory group that protects and enhances the economic and social integrity of companies committed to environmental protection.

“Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay staff are committed in taking a pro-active step to addressing global environment issues by adopting the Green Globe standards. Training has been put in place to ensure that all staff are fully aware about the hotel’s responsibility,” the Sustainability Policy says.

One major aspect already helping the hotel to meet policies in the sustainability statement is Novotel Clarke Quay’s ideal location. With the underground train station nearby, visitors have easy access to all of the major Singapore attractions, including Orchard Road, Raffles Place, Raffles City and the World Trade Centre, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Novotel began its involvement in the Green Globe certification program in July 2007. Each hotel is assessed according to seven performance criteria that guarantee better waste management, less pollution, and energy and water consumption control. By the year 2010, 100 percent of the Novotel network will commit to the Green Globe program.
